Gilded Balloon at the Museum opened in 2016. Containing the 210-seat, fully wheelchair accessible auditorium (entrance from Lothian Street), Gilded Balloon showcases the very best in comedy, theatre, music and children's shows.

This venue is signed up to the Best Practice Code.

What makes this venue special?

Located at the back of the iconic National Museum of Scotland building, this venue boasts a beautiful performance theatre hosting the best live enterainment, plus and a bar and coffee shop with a spacious outdoor seating area. Since its launch in 2016, the venue has played host to an eclectic line-up of performers from an array of genres.

Performance Space Details - Auditorium (audience capacity 210)

This superb proscenium theatre with high ceilings has raked seating and a raised stage and is deal for big productions. The stage area measures 7m long x 3m deep x 300mm high. The lighting rig has a warm and cold wash with a down stage centre special and LED colour changers. It has a vocal PA, complete with microphones and CD player. There is a dressing room and storage area for larger sets. There is a projector and back cyc in house for use, with the ability to project from the ops box onto a wall cyc. Please note that the cyc is NOT floor to ceiling - it is more like a movie screen. There is no capability to fly anything over head in the Museum auditorium. There is a free standing truss box frame over the stage which can take additional LX fixtures and light weight scenery on either the front cord or back cord.
