Venue Description

The Salisbury Centre is a community centre located in Newington with several direct bus routes. We have a beautiful garden and which is available for people use or relax in. The Centre is located behind a large white wall and is a beautiful old Victorian house from the 1800s. We have two large rooms available for consideration and our ground floor and garden is wheelchair accessible.

What makes this venue special?

The Centre was found 50 years ago in 1973. It has been a longstanding community centre in Edinburgh and continues to look in ways to benefit and help our community and the people of Edinburgh. The Centre is based on 4 pillars which are creativity, sprituality, eco-wellbeing and psychological wellbeing. We have a community events program and these events are run by donation. No one is turned away due to lack of funds. Our events include meditation, potluck lunch, yoga, creative sculpture, mindful drawing, georgian singing, DIY volunteering, philosophy for communities, a peer to peer support group for Black students (term-time only), seasonal festivals, circle dancing, climate cafes, authentic connection workshops, somatic movement workshops and more. Please check our website for details if you would like to attend any of these events. We are also a quiet space for performers to come to. If you would like to discussion the options for quiet space and/or peer to peer support space please email us. We offer tea, coffee and oat milk. These are free however, people are welcome to donate if they would like to. We are a completely substance free venue. No smoking or alcohol is allowed on the Centre or its garden.

Venue Programming

We are looking for events which run between 09:00-17:00 Monday-Friday. We are interested in having childrens shows, exhibitions, spoken word and one off events. The Centre has a strong ethos policy and we will not include shows which do not meet our ethos. No shows or events which promote homophobia, racism, sexism, ableism, ageism and/or classism will be considered. We are open to discuss the running of free shows and shows on a sliding scale.

Viewing Details

Our office hours are 11:00-14:00 Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We request that viewing are booked in advance and to let us know if this times do not work for you.

Performance Space Details - Art Room (audience capacity 20)

The Art Room is a light and airy space on the ground floor of the Centre with outdoor access both from the street and into the rear garden. This versatile room has wooden floors and is equipped with carpets which can be rolled out, chairs, piano, cushions, zafus, yoga mats. The space can be used for a wide variety of activities and can hold 20 people (8 x 5m). There is no stage, however there is direct access to our Garden.
